Lining up the grid…

How to play Saturday Grid

Every grid has three colleges down the side and three NFL facts across the top. Your job is to fill all nine squares.

  1. Tap a square and start typing a player's name.
  2. Pick a player who went to that row's school and fits that column.
  3. You get nine guesses in all, and wrong guesses count.
  4. Each player can only be used once per grid.

Columns can be the team that drafted a player, a 1st-round pick, Pro Bowler, Hall of Famer, Heisman winner, a position, or drafted in 2015 or later.

Tips

  • Start with the square you're sure of, then work outward.
  • Save your stars. A household name might be the only answer you know for another square.
  • Go deep. A backup or a forgotten late-round pick lowers your rarity score far more than a superstar.

FAQ

Does "Drafted by" mean the team he played for?

No. Team columns mean the team that drafted him. A player traded or signed later only counts for the team that picked him, and undrafted players aren't in the grid. Relocated teams count as one franchise (the Oilers are the Titans, the Oakland and LA Raiders are the Raiders).

Which players count?

Every player taken in the NFL Draft since 1980, listed under the college he was drafted from.

What's the rarity score?

Each filled square shows roughly what share of players would pick the same name, estimated from how well known he is. Add up the nine squares, with 100 for each empty one: lower is better, and a 💎 marks a deep cut.

How does a challenge work?

Finish today's grid and tap Challenge a friend. They get a link with your score and play the same grid. Most correct wins, and rarity breaks a tie.
